Last practice was during halloween. It was great to see that many of the players were dressed up specifically for practice itself. I know I was. I was Bob Chan. The easiest of last minute costumes. The best thing about it was that everyone knew who I was. The best costume award goes to Danny Walters who was a perfect replication of Scott Roeder. Danny could hardly recognize distinguish himself in the mirror. From spray-on gold cleats to blue cap and board, a perfect copycat. We were the only team to dressed up too. We took a warmup lap around the entire field. We were the only people dressed up. Well, minus this couple who looked exactly like Ash Ketchum and Misty from Pokemon, who were waiting for the tennis courts. Anyway, just goes to show how cool our team is.
Today's practice focused on the dumpsets. It uses one person at the front of the stack to cut breakside and the standard breakside dump to cut upline. It worked quite effectively. Originally it was only suppose to be used when the mark was forcing middle from the sidelines. But because we didn't really realize which way the force was going, the dumpset was used for all cases, including those trapped to sideline. Again, the dumpset still worked. It also could just be a weak defense, but it is something I now prefer.
Huckfest is at the end of next week. We'll see the effectiveness of our new players soon enough. Other than this dumpset, I hope the captains have something sneakier up their sleeves. The competition is not too high, not like Sean Ryan where our team would have to hope to get 9th. But there are still teams such as SDSU and Arizona which are sure to be contenders. Actually SDSU has always won the title at huckfest. It'd be nice for once to win at our own tournament.
