3/5/2006 - Huge Sunday Turnout

Today's game was at Dove Creek with the usual sunday OCUltimate crowd. There were plenty of people out there even without the UCI students. In fact, each point became a wholesale point as there were enough people to host two fields for about an hour. There was never a shortage of people even towards the end of the practice at 2pm.

UCI attendance: ChrisP, Prez Eric, Alphabater Eric, Kaitlin, Raph, Danny, Guy, Jenn, Jerry, George, MAggleton

Notable OCUltimate(as in who I remember) : Mike Phan, Reggie, Kurt, Josh, Greg, Tony

Don't know the guys on Chapman yet, but they're looking pretty good.

Player Highlights:
-Number 1 on my list is George Huang who played great today.
George had an awesome layout score during an endzone play. He also had very nice upwind throws. I'm not even sure if he had any drops. Glad he decided to come out.
-Maggleton, playing through injuries, had several great D's over Raph.
-Raph had his ups-and-downs. He bobbled the disc many times, but always ended catching it. He even picked up a lot of the trash from the old guys, although those were bobbled too.
-Jenn who was playing against a lot of experienced players had some good break-the-mark backhands. (And I say this because she did an inside-out backhand to the guy I was guarding)She mostly played as a dump. And despite her own judgment, she did very well.

Game Highlights:
Since there was a lot of wind, there was a huge emphasis on short game. There was a lot of good flow to be had on both sides. The longest game was a close one ending at 13-11. Towards the end it was virtual student vs OCUltimate line; with Jerry, Danny, ChrisP, George, and me on one line and Reggie, Mike Phan, Josh, Kurt on the other. This mostly UCI line was able to take this game 7-2 in style with some well-done flow down the break side.

A nice afternoon of ultimate ended with 9 of us at Carl's Junior
