Week 1 of Spring Quarter - 2 weeks til sectionals...

Despite having more time on my hands, I totally forgot about blogging since spring break. Anyway, these practices focused on scrimmage with conditions. The drills were pretty standard and focused on the fundamentals of cutting as usual. Break-mark, higher angled cuts, dump sets, etc. We're still using the H-stack.

The track workout for the week was all running, using 2 sets of 4 lap intervals and then 3 sets of shuttle runs (ran from 10yd, 15, 10, 20, 10, 15, 10). It was pretty tough but everyone survived it and everyone was happy to do it at 5pm instead our last quarter's 7am.

Scrimmages

1st scrimmage - Offense versus Defense
Conditions - The captains divided us back into O and D lines. The defense line always pulls and starts with 3 points. The game is to 5.
Result - The game was not without turns, but the offense still won 5-4.

2nd scrimmage - Vets versus Rookies
Conditions - Pretty much the starting line against everyone else. Everyone else started with 3 points. Pretty much everyone who was graduating plus Miller and Roeder was on the veteran line.
Results - There still were some turns, but the Vets won it 5-3. And actually, the rookies coulda/shoulda won, but they had to red zone drops. Ahem... so dramatic that I still remember them a week later. The 1st point, the rookies made it all the way down, and had a hasty throw and a sad drop by D-Rock. During the 3-3 tie, the same occurred with a drop from Peter out the side.

3rd scrimmage - Normal(?)
This game was unintentionally normal. It was suppose to be a stall 5 only game, but everyone forgot and it was played out normally. The teams were pretty even.

And of course, for every game, 40yard shuttles were sprinted for point differential. I was on the winning side for each game =). O, vet, and dark.

Thursday - 4/03/2008
I still thought it was a fun day of scrimmage, but with much poorer results. Lots of shuttles to be ran

1st scrimmage - O vs D
Offense lost this one both times. In fact, they had to run a total of 7 shuttles, one for each point of difference. Actually the game scores were 5-2 and 5-3, but Allen gave us a double-or-nothing challenge that we lost.

2nd scrimmage - Vet vs Rookie
Veterans lost this too. Starting on D, the rookies scored with Phil twice, who was on Max both times. Superior youth and height made this an exploitable matchup. We lost 5-1 (or 2-1), but still unexcusable.

3rd scrimmage - stall 5
I do not remember much and there is not much to be said. These were quick games to 3 to finish up the day. They were sad and cloggy and did not really look good. Anyway, my team last.

In contrast to tuesday, I was on the losing team for each scrimmage. And so was Box and he was angry. I did play well though. Only 1 throwaway, then 2 skies, 2 assists, 2 scores. Allen asked me before practice that'll he ask me what I did right at the end of practice. I had good news. Gotta step it up though. I did lose after all.
