2/14/2008 - A demoralizing last practice before Prez Day 2008

Small group today, which is kind of a surprise since there is a tournament in two days. Hahaha, I wish it was because our men's teams had Valentine's Day duties, but really I think it is because our team is tired, injured, or just stressed out from school. Ultimate is a job. We treat it as a job now. And it is not a source of relaxation for most anymore. Anyway...

Drills:
Break-mark Diamond drill
Zone marking drill (circle) - designed to help the cup move quickly to the mark. Players circle up and throw the disc between them while the cup marks up on the disc. Almost like monkey in the middle with a cup.

*New Defense:
Transition Zone-to-Man
-New spin by fusing standard defenses. Zone setup with force to one sideline. Zone must be set up so one or two throws me go off first. Once zone is set up, zone is trapped to one side. Once its trapped, defense transitions to man defense and the rest plays out.

Scrimmage:
We only had 5's so we played double-box
Games to 3; 2 out of 3 games.
Dark - Me, Miller, Box, Stig, Yangbin
Light - Allen, Jerry, Thunder, Phil, Peter
Sideline - Sam, KG

First game - 3-0 Dark
Second game - 3-0 Light
Final game - 3-2 Dark

This practice was frustrating with our initial 6's. We tried to learn the transition zone to man, but not having a 7th man in zone really made it difficult to run. Anyway, it does have some potential. The main thing is that it is a transition without an audible so it could catch some unprepared teams really off-guard. Unfortunately, things are really iffy. Not a very confident way to go into a tournament... it even looks like we might be going into this tournament with a savage 7 or 8. One day to rest up.
